French Onion Fries
Ingredients
- 1 onion
- 1 tablespoon butter butter works best for caramelizing onion
- 2 russet potatoes - cut into fries
- 1 tablespoon oil
- pinch salt
- pinch pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ cup shredded cheddar or gruyere cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Add butter to a skillet over medium heat. Once melted add onions and a pinch of salt. Reduce heat to medium low and cook onions for 40-50 minutes, stirring occasionaly.
- While onions are cooking cook your potatoes. Add potatoes to a nonstick sheet pan or a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Toss with oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping once halfway through.
- Once both potatoes and onions are done cooking, push the fries together on the center of the pan. Top with onions, cheese and thyme. Broil for about 5 minutes, until cheese is melty. Dig in and enjoy.
