I love a good sandwich. I have been regularly making these Vegan Tempeh Bacon Sandwich TLTA sandwiches for months and I am so excited to post this recipe. The key to getting tempeh really flavorful is to marinate it for at least one how so it soaks in all the flavors. This sandwich is essentially the vegan version of a BLT, so a tempeh lettuce tomato sandwich with avocado. Yum!

Ingredients for tempeh bacon, lettuce, tomato avocado sandwich
- tempeh
- soy sauce
- maple syrup
- apple cider vinegar
- sourdough
- avocado
- sliced tomato
- lettuce
- mustard
Instructions for making a TTLA tempeh bacon sandwich
- Add tempeh to a container and pour over soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup. Seal container and shake to fully coat. Let marinate for at least 1 hour or up to 24.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Add tempeh to a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Top toasted bread with avocado, tomato, mustard, lettuce, pickles and tempeh. Dig in.
Substitutions
- Lettuce - you can use any lettuce or green you want
- Bread - use gluten free bread if needed

Tempeh is made with the full bean where as tofu is ground up beans.
I think the key to making tempeh taste good is to marinate it, this allows it to absorb the flavors.
Recipe pro-tips
Not all tempeh is created equal, some do not taste good. I recommend trying a locally made tempeh or the light life brand for the best tasting tempeh.
The longer you marinate your tempeh the better it will taste. If you can marinate it overnight this is best, but 15 minutes will do the trick.

I am a HUGE fan of the TTLA sandwich that they sell at Whole Foods, so when I saw this recipe, I definitely had to make it! I am very impressed with the way the tempeh turned out. It tastes just like the one they use at Whole Foods!! I love the addition of pickles in this recipe as I usually don’t order those in my sandwich when I buy it, but it was a great addition.
