Savory & Crispy Oven Baked Tofu

    ★★★★★

    5 from 9 reviews

Tofu is kind of controversial. I totally get it because some tofu is straight up disgusting. If it is not prepared properly it can be flavorless and mushy. But like any food, it can be made amazing with the right preparation and flavors. This recipe is the best savory & crispy oven baked tofu recipe ever!

This crispy tofu can convert almost any tofu hater. My secret to getting a good crisp is using arrowroot starch or cornstarch. In addition soy sauce, spice and yeast combo makes the tofu so flavorful. I could eat a block of this crispy tofu plain!

This tofu recipe is also pretty easy. Although it does take 40 minutes in the oven, it is pretty hands off after you prep the tofu. I love this recipe because it is so versatile. This tofu can be eaten alone, added to a salad, or tossed in a tasty sauce. Seriously the possibilities are endless.

What you need for this recipe:

    • Tofu
    • Avocado oil
    • Soy Sauce
    • Nutritional yeast
    • paprika
    • garlic powder
    • arrowroot starch or cornstarch

    How to store the leftovers

The leftovers can be stored in a sealed container in your fridge for up to two days.

    Ingredients

    • 1 block extra firm tofu - pressed and cubed
    • 1 tbsp avocado oil or other neutral oil
    • 1 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
    • ½ tsp paprika
    • ½ tsp garlic powder
    • 2 tbsp arrowroot starch/powder or cornstarch
    • pinch salt and pepper

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
    2. Add tofu to a bowl and toss with remaining ingredients until fully coated, adding in starch ½ tablespoon at a time. I shook the bowl a few times to really get it combined. Add tofu to a lined sheet pan.
    3. Bake tofu for ~30 minutes or until desired level of crispness is reached.
    4. Eat tofu alone, or add to whatever you want!

This recipe was so yummy and super crispy! I was skeptical of tofu for the longest time, but it turns out it’s because I was cooking or wrong all along! This recipe was amazing served over vegetable stir fry- perfect for leftovers, too. I couldn’t stop eating it.

I’ve been plant based for over three years now and I love tofu, but I always had a hard time getting it super crispy. This recipe is spot on! I like to use smoked paprika and spicy seasoned salt for a little heat too!

This was my first time working with tofu. I used the crispy tofu in the Hot Honey Sticky Cauliflower recipe. It tasted great and was very easy to make. Thanks for sharing both of these recipes.
