French Onion Fries
These french onion fries are a delicious potato side dish.

- 1 onion
- 1 tablespoon butter butter works best for caramelizing onion
- 2 russet potatoes - cut into fries
- 1 tablespoon oil
- pinch salt
- pinch pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ cup shredded cheddar or gruyere cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Add butter to a skillet over medium heat. Once melted add onions and a pinch of salt. Reduce heat to medium low and cook onions for 40-50 minutes, stirring occasionaly.
While onions are cooking cook your potatoes. Add potatoes to a nonstick sheet pan or a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Toss with oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping once halfway through.
Once both potatoes and onions are done cooking, push the fries together on the center of the pan. Top with onions, cheese and thyme. Broil for about 5 minutes, until cheese is melty. Dig in and enjoy.
