French Onion Fries

These french onion fries are a delicious potato side dish.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 onion
  • 1 tablespoon butter butter works best for caramelizing onion
  • 2 russet potatoes - cut into fries
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • pinch salt
  • pinch pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar or gruyere cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Add butter to a skillet over medium heat. Once melted add onions and a pinch of salt. Reduce heat to medium low and cook onions for 40-50 minutes, stirring occasionaly.
  • While onions are cooking cook your potatoes. Add potatoes to a nonstick sheet pan or a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Toss with oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping once halfway through.
  • Once both potatoes and onions are done cooking, push the fries together on the center of the pan. Top with onions, cheese and thyme. Broil for about 5 minutes, until cheese is melty. Dig in and enjoy.
